Reducing no-shows on booked bowling lanes
Updated October 22, 2026 · For independent bowling centers
An empty booked lane on a Saturday night is money you turned away. No-shows can’t be eliminated, but a few habits cut them sharply.
Put a time limit on holds
A hold should expire. If the customer hasn’t confirmed by the deadline, release the lane. This stops “maybe” bookings from blocking real customers.
Send the booking in writing
Customers who receive their booking details, with lane and time, are more likely to show up and more likely to call if plans change. Send it when the booking is confirmed.
Take deposits on busy slots
Deposits on Friday and Saturday evenings and on parties filter out casual bookings. Keep weekday bookings deposit-free if your lanes are quiet then.
Have a clear cancellation policy
- Free cancellation up to a set time, such as 24 hours before.
- Deposit kept for no-shows and very late cancellations.
- Stated when the customer books, and in the confirmation.
