Paper lane reservation book vs a booking app
Updated October 26, 2026 · For independent bowling centers
Many bowling centers still take bookings in a paper reservation book at the front desk. It is quick to write in while the phone is ringing, and everyone on shift knows where it is.
The book only knows what’s written in it. It can’t remind a party, it can’t tell you which holds were confirmed, and nobody can check it from home when a manager is asked about Saturday.
Getting the most from the book
- Write the end time, not just the start.
- Take a phone number for every booking.
- Mark held or confirmed next to each one, and call holds two days out.
- Pencil leagues in at the start of the season.

Switching mid-season
Enter leagues first, then upcoming bookings from the book. Keep the book at the desk for a week and copy anything written there into the app at close. After that, put the book away so there is only one place to look.
